hey guys, I last week at the races in Ocala FL. I saw a dodge neon srt-4 that sounded like a jet. my friend told me the srt-4 has twin turbo's and a intercooler.. i want to know is a intercooler effective on mopar vehicles ?

well as far as i know and correct me if im wrong but an intercooler is used in turbocharged and supercharged vehicles, so yeah if its got a turbo it has an intercooler, now if you want to put an intercooler on a non-turbo vehicle... i dont know about that one
someone else with more knowledge will chime in :D

If your vehicle is naturally aspirated you would have no need for an intercooler.

All turbos don't necessarily have an intercooler, but they run alot better with one.

I have a neon with a 04 srt-4 swap... does that count?
And as stated above you do not have to have a intercooler on a turbo car.. the reason you put one on there, is because the turbo is powered by exhaust gas correct? Think about how hot that is... and think about where the turbo sits... Right on top of a exhaust manifold... think about a header flattend out into a square..
we all know hot air does not make good power.. so you add the intercooler to run that warm air up front so the cooler air flowing through the core cools off the hot air and then feeds it into the tb (throttle body)
And intercooler will serve no purpose for a n/a motor. Also srt-4's are only single turbos.. tod4 I believe is the numbers.. I wouldnt know, mine has big turbo, but If memory serves me correct thats what it is

Also the jet sound is either the spool of the turbo (not likely), or the car has a open dump.. meaning the wastegate dumps out underneath the car vs being recirculated into the exhaust (much quieter)..
My car has a open dump, and with the intake tube off the turbo its LOUD loud... with the intake tube on it, its pretty restrictive, and its not as loud but still pretty loud
