Damn....The last two and a half days getting my computer back in working order.

I picked up a virus a couple weeks ago and although Norton power eraser found it ( the only software that did) and removed it it did it's damage. Wednesday morning the thing wouldn't even boot up. After trying for 1.5 hours to get it to boot I finally had to wipe the hard drive. I'm still installing software and backups but almost there.

It damaged the boot sector on the disk. Well I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel finally.

That's a bummer man. I just had to rebuild one of my lab PCs...the stupid batter on the MOBO for the BIOS died so everytime I booted it would freak out not knowing where to boot from, where the logic drive was, etc...

Pain in my butt...I feel your pain!

Ugh, I feel for ya, Joe. I got a corrupted BIOS about a month ago and had to go without my primary computer for about a week. Glad to hear it's almost ever!

That's the problem with viruses. New ones every day, even an up to date anti-virus made today won't block a new virus that comes out tomorrow. I use AVG myself and haven't had problems.

I've been using Microsoft Security Essentials for nearly a year now and haven't gotten even as much as malware. There are normally at least 2-3 updates per day with this one and best of all, its FREE!!!

Yup! This one was recommended by the tech who repaired my computer. He removed Norton and installed this. So far so good!

I just have to mention this. If you don't want to have to worry about virus's any more.. malware the whole nine yards, and feel secure with online browsing etc or NOT have to pay for virus protection.. and wish to get the OS for free with tons of free software, dudes and dudettes install Linux OS.

It's marvelous...

I made the switch years ago when, it was more difficult to run but it has come a long way..
Debian, is a good flavor of Linux to use: http://www.debian.org

Mmm, sweet!

software makers make the virus, how better to test and to keep you buying updated software, if you got a free updated software good for you, I try staying away from popups, and opening unknown emails!!
