View Full Version : After I Pay Off the Challenger
Siekobilly 08-09-2011, 12:40 AM I'm thinking about restoring a classic once the Challenger is paid off. I've still got just under 4 years, but I figure if I start thinking about it now and saving up it won't be a kick to the groin when the time comes. Now I just need to figure out what I want to restore...
Right now I'm thinking about three different cars:
Early 70's Cuda
Mid 50's Chevy C10
Late 60's or early 70's Buick Skylark
I'm leaning towards the Cuda right now because well...it's a completely badass car! What do you guys think? Anyone have experience doing a resto?
Cryoguns 08-09-2011, 01:17 AM It'll be quite awhile before mine is paid off, but I had the same thoughts. I want to do a frame-off resto on a 1970 Barracuda and build it up exactly as I would have for my dream car (sublime green paint, black interior, black hockey stick stripes, shaker hood with argent silver shaker, hopefully a 440 or a 426 Hemi powerplant).

That's similar to the Cuda I want. I'd def go for the 440, but it'd be a triple black paint job with the black shaker. I basically want the Cuda from Phantasm just with a shaker instead of the standard hood.

Jd3443pd 08-09-2011, 02:23 AM My vote is for the 70 Cuda, but that's because I have one. My car is Vitamin C Orange with a Black interior. I would have gone a different way with the engine and drivetrain (modern Hemi and overdrive trans.), but I found the build sheet taped to the top of the glove box and it along with the V.I.N. verify that the 318 V8 under the hood and the 904 trans. are numbers matching original to the car. Between AMD Metal Crafters, The Paddock, Year One and ebay you can find just about any part that you might need/want.

I know a guy that has a 383 4bbl MINT white Challenger for sale. It is a 1970 and is in perfect shape. 99.9% stock, only new tires have been added. She is quick and can get up and go. Looks JUST LIKE Kowalski's car minus the 440. I have pics of it in my photo section!
Jettech104 08-09-2011, 03:15 PM The cuda gets my vote!! Cause i always wanted one myself!!
NOTPAID4 08-09-2011, 04:01 PM The Cuda would be very cool!!! Tee and I have a few older cars too.... but having too much FUN with all the magnums, leaving US No time to play with the others. In fact we already sold THREE of our old cars!

Was yours the orange '70 Cuda I saw back in the April show at the Galaxy Diner?

No, but mine is almost identical to that one. It has a set of 17" Boyd Coddington Billett wheels on it right now, because a friend of mine needed the 14" Cragar S/S that I had on it.

GLHSHELBY 08-19-2011, 03:40 AM cuda would be the only old car I`d restore. Besides that I`d just stick with newer stuff. What would be nice is if Dodge would discontinue the Challenger for a few years and make a chrysler cuda then sales would skyrocket.

Absolutely beautiful car!! You've done a fantastic job on it.
Jd3443pd 08-20-2011, 03:14 AM Thanks. It is Vitamin C Orange with Black interior. It has manual everything and power nothing, no A/C, matching #'s 318 V8 and the original MOPAR Rallye Wheels are in storage. The only major change that I have done is swap out the front drum brakes for a set of disc brakes. People tend to tailgate me when I take it out for a drive, so for fear of it being rear ended and totally destroyed I find myself driving it less and less. Very sad.
Siekobilly 08-20-2011, 02:15 PM Wow, that is a stunning car!
Jd3443pd 08-20-2011, 05:25 PM Thank you. Sorry to hi-jack your thread with it.
