Big Horn got a warning ticket by DMV Theft Officer on 7-25-11, for tint violation on his rear window for it being alittle to dark, He said it read 18%, but I did not think so, but I had to go and get it re-tinted anyway to make sure, and to have another DMV Theft Officer to sign off on the warning ticket, after He put the tint meter on it again, He checked three different places on that one window and 35% is totally legal, all other windows were legal to start with, they informed Me that they were going after people with illegal tint due to more vehicles being observed with illegal tint by law enforcement, My advice, make sure all your tint is legal, it's less costly that way, it cost Me $150.00 to have my rear window re-tinted on 7-25-11 :SHOCKED::shakehead::str::doh:

YUP, same exact thing happened to Tee and I the DAY AFTER we had the front windows done on her car CHANCE. However the DMV officer, after metering the windows asked US, "Who done your tint?" He then said: "Tell HIM he did a great job, you are at 34.2% ~ Just legal!

Whew, luckily we had FOUR cars done the same way at the same place!

He also went on to say they were aggressively checking tint too!

Reckon they need the income............

I guess I better hide......... 20 percent all the way around. Big Horn where were you when you got checked? I know better than to go into Raleigh,been pulled over many times for nothing. And on a side note there (police) also looking for lisense plate brackets that cover North Carolina or part of your stickers and also tinted covers over them. I know of 2 people that got a ticket for this in the past month. So I took my tinted one off.

A lot of time what happens is the factory tint of the window does not get factored in. So when you add the after market tint, it's too dark.

Thanks all for the replies keep them coming, I agree with Joe, they must need the money, why would you be stopping vehicles that cost/worth $ 30.000.00 plus and the only thing you can see or know is their tint, or to say 1# window, Wow what's next because our cars stand out from all the others on the road :shakehead: :SHOCKED::doh::att::str:

In GA, 5% on the rear window is legal and 35% on all side windows. Windshields can have as dark as 5% but can only be the top 6 inches. I've got 20% on all but the windshield which is 50%. Depending on the way you look at the car, it looks like 35% and have found that as long as I have the sunroof visor open, there is no way to tell just by looking. My tint guy did a fantastic job. If I ever get stopped for it, I know better than to say names. On the up side, can always go with the migraine or show car excuse. Sometimes they will let that slide.

My dad had gotten pulled over in his car about 2 years ago by a state trooper for 20 % all around... I went with him to the place they sent him ( State Trooper station in Raleigh) we paid the money they checked the window after I took the tint off, signed the paper we were supposed to show at court and whatever.

I asked them about the back window.. He said you could put any percent you want on the back window.... I didn't believe him but I asked him about 4 times and he said the same thing.. He even said "hell you could paint it black if you wanted too" ......

Usually you can get out of a tint ticket if you go to court and just show an old picture of you car when you didnt have tint, or a similar car without tint.... But when worst comes to worst... having your own lawyer is the way to go... I like my tint really dark because of the look it adds to the car. Plus I almost never ride with my windows up unless its raining or I am on the highway ( sometimes)

I have the legal limit in florida. I have 30% on the front windows, 15% on the sides and the back. It is plenty dark for me.

I have been round and round with Law Inforcement in this area and also the DA in Wae County. They all had a different version of the tint law here in NC. Finally I had a Sargent from the State Police Foce tell me what exactly the law is for NC.....

Driver Side/Passenger Side Fronts= 35%
Driver Side/Passenger Side Backs= Any Shade
Back Rear Glass = 35%

Of course this is for the Charger People out there. The Challenegers are simply 35% all the way around give or take 4%.

Now how stupid is that but I have 35% on my fronts but put an extra lyer of the cling on stuff you can get from any Auto or Walmart Store this way it matches up with the 20% that I have the rest of the way around the car. The one time I did get pulled oer I simply peeled of my extra layer and it was then legal 35% up front.
