Dave, if you never seen the NC/SC mountains in the fall, you don't know what you are missing! the leaves colors are amazing!.
I will try to plan a good route to get some good views.

u guys making us south floridians jealous, we dont even have hills! :D

Dave, Asheville is about 4 hours from here and the 3rd week of October is usually around peak colors. A word of advice though, if you plan on spending a weekend night up there it will be premium price and will probably need advance reservations. Week nights are usually not a problem.

You could always start north and drive south. If you over nighted in Galax VA you should get a good rate on a room and you could travel the parkway down into NC. Wonder what the rates at the Station Inn are like this time of year. Of course that's only a couple of hours from Galax on the parkway....

The wife and I are in. We love the Hills especially in the fall.Let us know if everything get set.
