as some of you know Katia's laptop got infected big time! her desktop background changed to something saying "your system is infected and you need to run an antivirus" i was like WTF! it wouldnt let me run an antivirus, i went under safe mode and it wouldnt let me log in as an administrator (which i am), no antivirus, no restore, i found where the virus was located, erase the file and the mofo went to another file and there was no way i was gonna get it out!

since lovely katia has over 25 gb of just pictures! not counting music or videos there was no way i was gonna let that go away so i bought myself a 500gb external hard drive for 50 bucks (gotta love ebay) and i got it yesterday... so my homework started, i send all my files to the new hard drive, i sent all her files to the hard drive so i went to scan the hard drive and before i even started bam! my laptop got infected with the same virus!! aaargh... yeah tell me about it.

after that i tried to reinstall windows and everything again into her computer and NADA effin virus would not let me! i had to reformat the virus and then reinstall everything again!

i just finished with both computers, i just triple check the external drive and scan everything twice just to make sure cos i have never been so infected before, good thing i always keep the cd's of any software i install... one thing i wanna let everyone know get a good antivirus! it pays off :)

have you ever had an experience like this? i would call it a nightmare!

by the way im running Mc Afee and windows XP pro on both laptops.

I have nothing but MAC's personally (Mac Pro desktop + 30" +23" displays:D:D:D:D) a Mini in the living room and a 17" MBP for work. I gave my Dad a mini (he's 71) and he has not missed a beat. I then gave a 24" iMac to my Mother In Law and though she was reluctant to switch, I forced it on her and she has not missed a beat. I just have to switch my sister and I will be out of the PC tech support business forever!!!!!

Don't let anyone tell you that MAC's are too $$$$, because while the up front os high, the total cost of ownership is MUCH lower. I used to build a new PC every 6-8 months, but I am still on the Mac Pro I bought in Aug 2006, and it still screams. Add in that Mac's actually have a resale value, and most of the software you need is already on them.

Some gamer will chime in that they don't game well, but that just depends on the game, if you play the high powered stuff, well that's what consoles are for!

Hahaha sorry not my laptop. Its my friends daughter laptop and she is 13 so you could imagine what nasty things were in there.But I have been hit and hit hard:mad:, but not tell where I was at.:D

My daughter gets this crap on her laptop a couple times a year. She is always downloading music and stuff from Limewire, some bear site, another one that is after a color... I DON"T KNOW how many different sites she has tried using, but all the free download sites infect her computer.

We are going through it right now. Same situation you have. Virus won't leave, moves around, won't let me run any security program except its own. So now the computer sits on my dining room table and going to my brothers on Sunday. He is my IT guy. If I can't fix it in a couple of hours, then he takes over. It is what he does for a living. :)

I just make my daughter wait a while to teach her a lesson before dropping it off. Hell, he only lives in Weston (20 min drive from my place.)

funny thing is that wife doesnt download nada from the internet, so i really dont know how the hell she got that virus... she spends lots of time on facebook and those kind of sites so beware! :D
