View Full Version : LED Bulb(s) Questions
SsirK 12-19-2010, 01:52 PM I'm thinking of switching out my current stock bulbs (interior first, then exterior.)
I've been looking all around at different sites, and the more I look, the more confused I get by all the choices.
(4 led, 6 led, 40 led, soooo many to choose from)
Can anyone show/tell me what they are using on their cars in specific spots? I really like the look of the white LEDs ( I already installed some generic led strips from an auto parts store in my trunk for extra lighting )
Thanks
alex.kapparos 12-19-2010, 02:01 PM :popc::popc::popc: This could be interesting. I would like to see some as well.
SsirK 12-19-2010, 08:41 PM I know there have been a bunch of posts on other forums, and I think I found a kit to use, but I was just curious what others on here used & think of them.
jkelly16 12-19-2010, 10:46 PM I've not used led's for the outside lamps but from what I've read with brake & turn signals there is a load issue. You may have to install some kind of load cell to make up for the lack of amperage that the led's pull.

I bought some Leds from them for my cup holders and front foot wells.

This is SO TRUE! I bought some 7 led tail light bulbs for my SRT and the minute I hit the brakes I blew two fuses. One in the front fuse box and one in the read fuse box. Needless to say.... I'm DONE with LED's. I did hear and read the interior ones did NOT have this problem.... don't know why???

I believe the box that controls all this (brakes & turn signals) is looking for a certain amp load. This does not include the interior lamps. If there is not enough load, it thinks that bulbs are blown.
HCCAFan 12-20-2010, 03:11 AM Signals will flash fast as hell. I can tell you that. Also, the LEDs have a hard time putting out light all around like a bulb so you end up with lights that only shine in one direction.
You can find adapters that take a normal socket and make it so just about any LED can fit in the interior on Ebay.
Try this http://www.automotivelightstore.com/oracleledlighting.aspx. Theres LEDs on there that shine all around so you can see it just like regular light bulbs
mrwfp 12-21-2010, 02:54 AM I put the 6-SMD white LED lights in my Challenger overhead map light. They put out a really clean, white light - much better than that dingy, yellow light from the stock light bulbs. They cost about $15 on eBay and you can usually get free shipping. They are well worth the $15 versus the 69 cents each for stock bulbs.
chithead 12-21-2010, 05:34 AM Do you notice any dimness when the map lights are off? I have heard some LED bulbs will require a resistor in order for them to not light up still. Apparently there is still enough voltage in the lines when the key is on for an LED to light up, but not a regular bulb.
I found a great place on eBay as well that carries every option imaginable, high quality stuff too. I just don't want them to glow very dim when they are supposed to be off!
mrwfp 12-21-2010, 10:16 PM When the map lights are turned off, they are off and produce no light at all. I have never seen the ones that I have installed stay dim once the switch has been turned off. It has always been an instantaneous loss of light.
baja73 12-21-2010, 11:25 PM If your interested i have a set of red l.e.d.'s from ACC for the map lights. Next meet i'll bring them and you can see if you like them.
