HotInferno 07-16-2009, 05:13 AM Thanks Marty, I missed the launch.
I though that was my daughter blasting out of the blocks at one of her track meets or stealing a Bball headed up court with those flames.
Got to give credit where it is deserved, God Bless the good ol USA!!!
Thank God we got that thing off the ground this time.

You got that right! Don't you do work for those?
I work for Lockheed Martin. We build the big orange fuel tank.

Very cool ,yea thats what I thought. What kind of camera do they use on that? It really hung on a long time on this launch, impressive! What company supplied and installed it?
The ET Camera System consists of a video camera, two antennas, and associated electronics for the transmission of video signals from the launch vehicle to ground based receiving stations. The camera has a fixed lens and is mounted in the LO2 feedline fairing (aimed aft). There is a protective window on the fairing to protect the camera from launch pad environments.
weezerzeke 07-17-2009, 02:51 PM How many shuttle launches are left? Something like nine or ten?
weezerzeke 07-17-2009, 05:01 PM Only eight sad to say.
Have they announced what they have up their sleeve next? Or are all the launches going to default to other countries when we retire the shuttle? I'm hoping we have some new spacecraft behind the curtain.

Very cool man! I wonder if one could get a pic of one of those cams?:D

No magic behind the curtain. Follow on space craft are years away. That was a bad mistake.

I don't think that would be a good idea. Just know that it is small and ugly and doesn't look like a camera.

Is that for certain? Makes you wonder if this is one of those deals where they have something we don't even know about already in operation. On the other hand, I can see shortsighted politicians taking money away from something as worthy as exploration of space and moving it to other things less worthy...like, I dunno, stimulus plans. :p
I am absolutely positive because we have the contract for the crew module. Unless NASA abandons the ARIES design and goes with the Shuttle derived concept, the gap will be around 5 years between Shuttle fly out and first launch of ARIES 1. Even if they use Shuttle C, the gap will be smaller, but still there. We have already wrapped up welding on our tanks and had several layoffs. We should hear a decision soon about all of this, since the new NASA administrator has been confirmed.
