View Full Version : 5.7 guys lookin for a bit more power? 05hemiregcab 07-12-2009, 03:44 AM I have a 6.1 cam just laying around the house if any of you are interested? Thanks Richard patrick2164 07-12-2009, 03:47 AM i didn't know those cams would interchange 05hemiregcab 07-12-2009, 04:07 AM Why would a srt8 cam not work in a car? j/w MHemi 07-12-2009, 04:09 AM Why would a srt8 cam not work in a car? j/w I am looking for a more radical Cam. patrick2164 07-12-2009, 04:14 AM Why would a srt8 cam not work in a car? j/w u say 5.7 guys lookin 4 power then u say 6.1 cam j/w? 05hemiregcab 07-12-2009, 04:30 AM I dont know about the cars, but I know in our trucks the 6.1 cam dropped in is good for 20-25rwhp, just no torque, and power is 4k and above! I assumed since a sidewinder out of a car motor can go in a truck motor and vice versa, that a 6.1 cam would give the 5.7 car guys more power also!?! I dont know for sure, but just guessing Which is why i am choosing the sidewinder. The 6.1 wouldnt be bad, but I use my truck to tow my car, so I need the torque, or could benifit from it is all 05hemiregcab 07-12-2009, 04:32 AM If it would swap over, you figure, cam for 50 bucks, springs and pushrods for around 100. So 200 dollars and a days worth of your time you can gain 20-25rwhp. If it swaps over? If not then disregard or delete the post! But I would think it would. mexi 07-13-2009, 03:02 AM here is the thing ... the cams will interchange. the cam will add horsepower. but way to late in the power band for it to become effective. BeanBry 07-13-2009, 03:24 AM here is the thing ... the cams will interchange. the cam will add horsepower. but way to late in the power band for it to become effective. Mexi, knows what he is talking about. patrick2164 07-13-2009, 03:27 AM Mexi, knows what he is talking about. yeh or so he thinks haha later :D 05hemiregcab 07-13-2009, 03:43 PM here is the thing ... the cams will interchange. the cam will add horsepower. but way to late in the power band for it to become effective. How late in the powerband are you talking? Truck guys that install them say they are a monster from 35-4k on up to redline. just no bottom end. So I dont know what your recovery rpms are when shifting at wot, but It would be fair to say it would be somewhere around that 4k mark, which would make it a decent track cam, shows gains in the trucks, gotta show gains in a lighter car. so 25rwhp for 200 at most? or 30-35+rwhp for 500+ (depending on the cam choice and needing a tune, bla bla) I just got the cam in a package deal with my SC. the previous owner ran a best of 13.52 @ 97.xx in a 4x4 rc/sb. He swears by it, I just want more torque for towing purposes, otherwise I would have used it! mexi 07-13-2009, 04:13 PM with no torque from the low end the 60 foot times would suffer. making it not a good track cam. with the 5.7 intake restriction at 5200 rpms the 5.7 do alot better with a cam with good low end mid range power. like i said it will make more peak power but you lose torque in the curve and imo not a good trade off. if someone is going to crack open there motor.. 450 for a new cam like the sidewinder or the lil boy is not alot of money. patrick2164 07-14-2009, 01:24 AM bad as i hate 2 admit it this turd ''mexi'' knows a lil bit about this stuff 05hemiregcab 07-15-2009, 01:32 AM bad as i hate 2 admit it this turd ''mexi'' knows a lil bit about this stuff Yeah I dont know much about the cars and their setups and what works for them. But I have been around DT for 3 years and have watched everyone start with these cams before there was anything out for the hemi's. And then watched the progression of cams and tuning for the hemis. (cars came along alot quicker than the trucks) torque is why i opted for the sidewinder, just figured I would throw it out there for anyone interested. mexi 07-15-2009, 01:38 AM yeah ive been around for the trucks too... im good friends with hemied up (jerry) and dline. RedInfierno 07-15-2009, 01:40 AM interesting reading this thread.... good knowledge right there! patrick2164 07-15-2009, 01:44 AM yes this is true concussion 11-12-2009, 05:19 AM I am running a 6.1 cam in my 5.7 magnum. The trick is to advance the cam 6* with the crower adjustable timing set. I gained low end but I did other mods at the same time. We originally installed this cam retarded 6* and the power came on at 3800 or so. I'd need to look it up. So installed straight up it should come on at 3200 or so. Not too late. This cam is underrated. If anything I need more top end with this setup. Where this misunderstanding is was mentioned by 05hemiregcab (http://www.deepsouthmopars.com/member.php?u=113). Everyone tested this cam before real tuning was available. Johan dailed me in pretty good w/o even being on a dyno and I think there is more power to be had yet. I'm a TC away from the 12s with this set up. concussion 11-16-2009, 05:53 PM I'm surprised there aren't any more ideas or comments posted on this thread... 05hemiregcab 01-12-2010, 01:37 AM No one cares, its too small of a cam, its old news, You know how it is, there is so much more and better out there! vBulletin® v3.8.4, Copyright ©2000-2012, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
