Charlotte Chapter Anniversary Bash!

Saturday Sept 18th

as I stated earlier the Charlotte Chapter is coming up on it's one year Anniversary,

Time to celebrate!


on Saturday September 18th with a few stops around some Charlottes finest auto related landmarks!


Here's the Plan!

11:30am am tour of the Charlotte Motor Speedway

meet between 10:30 and 11:00am at the Charlotte Motor Speedway for the tour where we will visit the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series garage, travel down pit road and take a picture in Victory Circle. The highlight of this half-hour tour is a comfortable van ride around the superspeedway where you will feel the full-tilt force of the 24-degree banking.
the speedway tour is 5 bucks per person. that includes everyone that will take up a seat in the van, including a child that needs a car seat

12:30-1:00pm Backing Up Classics Auto Museum.
We will take a full tour of this great museum which includes Classics, 50's, 60's, and Muscle Cars, engine displays including the 426 Hemi, a 427, 396, and a 302, over 18,000 square feet! Looking to spend 60-90 minutes here.
backing up classics will be 5 bucks per person, 4 bucks if you are over 60, kids 4 bucks, under 5 free

2:00pm Lunch at Punchy's Diner!
They have a party room in the back that can seat 40 people and if we have more they will be seated in the main dining room. Punchy's Diner is a great local diner with a closed in showroom that includes a couple of classic cars and old time memorabilia!
the cost of punchys would be whatever you get, they might add a tip for a large group though so we should plan on that!

Wish I could participate, but I'll be at the CMS for another event. I'll be driving around there for my Petty NASCAR experience. My wife got it for me for my 30th birthday last year. We also both get to do a 3 lap ride along.

demon340 (Steve) has just brought to my attention a great add-on event for our Charlotte Chapter Anniversary Bash!!

RK Collections is a custom shop for muscle car restos, hot rods, specialty vehicles. there are collectibles and a shop (much like at Petty's Garage!)

on Sept 18th they are having their 1st Annual Car Show & Cruise-in. The event will be from 4-9pm that evening and there will be cash prizes awarded!!! its $5 to enter before the 10th and $10 bucks after that.

also there will be NHRA driver Ron Capps on hand as one of the judges!!

we will get more information on this and what types of cars will be allowed in the show and what categories and things like that

SO.....for those who cannot make the Anniversary Bash events due to the drag races, why not swing by RK Collections (i'll post a map in a little bit, it is right around the corner from where we will be) and meet us up for a car show and cruise in!!!

come on folks lets get some more people signed up here!!

i will post up directions for where we are meeting (im sure most people know where the speedway is, but still)

this is shaping up pretty good!

just confirmed everything on the schedule for Saturday the 18th!!!

we will meet at the Charlotte Motor Speedway at 11:00am. our tour begins at 11:30, so that will give us time to get parked and get up to the NASCAR store where the tour starts. if you want to meet earlier we can to give us more time in the store, but its not that big and may be busy since the NHRA is in town also

speaking of the NHRA - please remember that Speedway Blvd may be busy with traffic. i dont expect it to be as bad as a Sprint Cup race, but im sure there will be some traffic. if you can come north or south on Highway 29 that would probably be better

we can park in the lots in front of the speedway. i dont think they will reserve any for us, but i will get there ahead of time and see if i can save some for us and be at the entrance to point to the side we will be on

once our tour is over there we will mosey about a half mile up the road to the museum, which is a self guided tour so we can take as much time as we need there

then off to Punchy's Diner for lunch. it is scheduled at 2pm and if the previous group gets out of the back room by then, it will be ours or we can wait till they clear out or just sit in the normal dining area with the common folk LOL i say we wait for the back room

also Punchy Whitaker's Tire and Wheel shop is right next door so if anyone is looking for some new wheels, this is the place to be!

after we are done at the diner cruise on over to the RK Collections car show which is located on the other side of I-85. the thread for this event is here

I'm glad this week is over! Now for some MOPAR time. My car hasn't been out once since the petty cruise.
Scott I'll call ya in the am...Depending on when we get outta here, might meet at your place.

The Red Baron (CB handle) arrived off the truck a couple of hours ago from its 3 month vacation in Ohio. In an unexpected turn of events we were able to get the car back down home today instead of next week. So I will have a Mopar to drive. I was almost going to have to resort to begging a ride so I could fit in...

Will be coming to the track, museum, and Punchy's but will have to miss the RK cruise-in due to the missus and another couple going to a concert in the evening.

Tee amd I had an absolute Blast today and really enjoyed everyone's company! I'll post up some pictures too as time permits..... HaHa, a lot of my pictures look just like yours ~ IF you didn't know better you'd think we were at the same place!!! LOL

We had a fun time also. Tour of Charlotte Motor Speedway was nice. Museum was full of great cars. Jerry has some nice photos of them.
Riding shotgun in a cup car at 165-180 mph was a blast. Next time I'll be behind the wheel.

I'll bet that was a BLAST! We also had a lot of fun at the car show and THREE out of the four of us won door prizes... NOT bad!
