View Full Version : Best Intake for 5.7 HEMI
FRESH4849 07-16-2010, 04:58 AM Sup Everyone!!
Can anyone give me some info on the best intake for the HEMI? I have no clue about HEMI's since all Ive had is the 3.5. I am a diehard K&N guy and love their product and had it on all my cars (03 Eclipse and 06 Magnum). Is there something that is better than K&N?
Thanks for any info!

Not a big fan of the Mopar intake, heard the metal tube actually causes you to lose horsepower cause it heats the air going in
So I posted this on LXForums and a guy told me LMI Intakes were awesome and looked great.
Anyone know/heard anything about these LMI Intakes???

everyone has a different opition us old school guys are straight up mopar my r/t screams with no horsepower loss 405 hp speaks for its self ...
BayouTiger 07-16-2010, 12:32 PM K&N makes a good unit. I would also stay away from the metal tube as it does soak more heat, but I doubt it is enough to matter. I would always go with on with an enclosed box that seals to te hood and draws from the fender well.
NOTPAID4 07-16-2010, 02:07 PM I have THREE intakes.... my first was a K & N and I love it... then I got a Big Bully and love it also and THEN I got the Legmaker "Hammer Design" and I love that one too. Didn't see any real difference in any of that or so that it seemed. LMI is my favorite, however it is the most expensive! The Big Bully is awesome too and a whole lot cheaper.
Right NOW, I have the LMI on my SRT and the Big Bully on my R/T!
Jettech104 07-16-2010, 07:53 PM I have the AFE CAI and i love it!! Got a great deal when i brought it!! Its a matter of what you want and budget. here is a link with some info.

Major League Hemi 07-17-2010, 12:55 AM Chris, dont be so worried about the air temp goin thru the CAI. Its movn thru at such a rate that it really doesnt get a chance to absorb any of that "hot" air. i have the mopar on ym chally and i didnt notice any hp loss, i actually noticed better responce and better gas mileage...:)

OOOooooOOooo Better gas mileage??? I LIKE IT!!! LOL My get my mom to see her price on one
TopB2972 07-17-2010, 01:00 PM I like my AFE stage 2 w/dry filter.
jstkilntim 07-17-2010, 02:37 PM Look at the Aria & the one from Arrington.
TopBananaGuy 07-17-2010, 03:49 PM Chris of all the tests I have read the only ones that actually increase horsepower on a stock engine are the cone shaped ones like the Aria or the Airhammer. They also produce the best sound.
With yours being a Daytona it already has a higher flowing intake. That and the exhaust are what gives it the extra horsepower over a regular R/T. So if you throw one of those with a small cone on there I think you could actually lessen your horsepower.

Well yes and no... sitting in traffic or staging lanes the hot air from the engine, soaks the tube and thus the air, and HAL pulls timing... you don't see that on most dyno pulls because the hood is normally left open.
Nick and I data log almost every pass we make at the dragstrip, and there is definitely a loss in power.
The Mopar intake has too small of a tube diameter and filter, the Aria's slow transition isn't the best for performance either. The K&N units use filters with "holes" that are too large to offer real protection.
The best solution is an intake with a large diameter tube, large filter with good protection (large filter even with a more protective filter material allows for great airflow and protection). The filter should sit low in the engine bay as close to the hole in the frame support as possible. Doing the lower baffle mod helps direct air up into the area where the filter sits.
A Frankentake IV, or LMI Frankentake is a great choice for the daily driver, while a fender pull set up is better for the dragstrip.
BTW the Frankentake IV has out performed the K&N, Hammer (Aria), Mopar and almost all the other designs, in head to head tests.
Also, without headers, mids/cats you'll really not get huge hp gains, as you can't get in more air than you can push out. You'll improve throttle response, feel and get a few ponies, but until you open up the exhaust it's more for sound and throttle response.

concussion 07-21-2010, 04:03 AM Kinda wacky bend in the tube. For a hundred bucks less you could get a LMI FIV...

^^X2^^
My intake pulls from the wheel well/ fender area (Kenne Bell), and even from there, my intake temps climb into the low 100-115 range when sitting still for a long time. The further you can put the filter away from the engine bay, the better, IMHO. I used to use an Airaid w/ the intake tube running to the hood scoop. I wonder what intake temps were/ are for a setup like that?
BTW, if anyone needs it, PM me. I'll sell it cheap to someone that's willing to put it to some use.
*Sorry for thread jack*
Mopar Rob 07-21-2010, 02:08 PM There are alot of intakes to choose from. Myself, I went with the ARIA. To me, it was the best design. Here is mine:
http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_images/3/1012/442/27527720719_large.jpg
I picked up 10+ HP and TQ (to the ground) and 20 miles on a tank.
If the Mopar CAI is to your liking, I'd get the one for the 6.1 HEMI (larger diameter).
I have heard good things about the Arrington intake.
Hope we are helping on this for ya Chris!

Rob that is an awesome intake especially with it painted to match!
concussion 07-21-2010, 06:34 PM The FrankenTake IV, not as wow factor as the Aria, but it did beat it on the dyno.

TopBananaGuy 07-22-2010, 01:11 AM Chris, that Frankintake might be something to consider. You build it yourself for a small fration of the cost of other intakes. He provides the parts info you need and where to buy them. We could build it on a mod day and we could paint the tube to match. I like how the filter sits right over the cold air hole. It seems that it actually increases HP like the Airhammer/Aria.

Yeah I believe that is what we will do Guy. I will contact Burleson and see what parts we need or I will just talk to him at the Shindig. Taking money with me though incase I see any sweet mods to buy!!!
TopBananaGuy 07-22-2010, 01:27 AM I had got sidtracked onto one of the other forums and he had the parts list on there. I think it was on LX.
Waiting until after the Shindig is a great idea I have seen some really good deals there.

Awesome!!! I shall now appoint you my personal advisor (sorry no pay) but we will seek out mods and discuss them as we spot them at the Shindig.

I've done this more than a few times. Chris has seen a peek at what I've running now, and that's just the mock up. building a really purpose built intake now, that's really above and beyond for the average daily driver.
I'd be more than happy to help you build it Chris, I've got all of the air tools to cut, smooth, polish/paint that bad boy.
You'll have to supply the parts and the beer of course. :D
