View Full Version : Dealership screwed up my car

Took the car in for an oil change and tire rotation today. For those of you who've seen the car, you know it has a custom paint job, ghost flames etc..

Well, got a call from the service department. They told me the car was ready but that they had some bad news. All I remember hearing after "bad news" was something about bumper, and backing up, and "it's not that bad".. I honestly was in a daze lilstening to her, and thinking the worse. I think there was a comment about "not torn". etc...

So, Im pissed, Im at work.. I took a walk for awhile, then calmed down enough to go get the car. It turns out the damage is not as bad as I envisioned but they will have to replace the whole front clip. There is a dimple the size of a nickel, the edge of the front bumper that meets the black grill area, one of those clips broke, and the bump apparently broke one of the clips on the headlight ring. According to the dealership, one of the employees was backing up a truck to park next to me, and hit the bumper with the trailer hitch of the truck. How in the heck he did that without realizing he was gonna hit the car is beyond me. The spot is right where the bumper bends rearward. He woulda trashed the whole front end had he not stopped.

It has to be painted by the guy who did my flames, since the front clip is no longer the factory color (darker titanium blending into the flames). The service manager was apologetic, told me they will take care of everything, not to worry. Front clip already on order. Dealership asked me if I wanted them to fix, or use my own body shop. Told them the guy who painted it will have to do it, Im not going anywhere else. He was fine with that.

In the end, even though Im still pissed, accidents do happen. The real test is how they handle it. I told the service manager that he did get +1 points for calling me immediately and not waiting until I picked the car up.

The oilchange was free (free 6 oil changes with the vehicle purchse) and they didn't charge me for tire rotations either. We'll see how it turns out. I wouldn't be as upset if it wasn't a custom paint job, but I am glad it didn't hit the fender and screw up the flames etc...

Feels better to write it out.. and not bottle it up inside.

mike im sorry to hear that the dealership damaged your car. it sounds like they didn't try and hide it and owned up to their screw up. that at least is worth something with all the lying, sneaking dealerships out there. which dealership was it? i know your body shop will have her looking like new!!

Dealership was local here in WR (5 Star Dodge). Im sure that in the end, all will be fine. They owned up right away, and I told the service manager he got a +1 in my book for that. We'll see how it ends, but at least it's starting out okay.

The thing is - I almost decided not to get the oil changed today. Thought about waiting until tomorrow. Oh well, hind sight is what it is, and who knows, if I woulda waited until tomorrow, he might smashed the whole thing!

Just glad it wasn't worse than it is....

Definately not one of those phone calls you want to get. Hope everything works out. It's nice to see that their customer service isnt as bad as their driving.

Yes accidents do happen. He should have been more careful and I'm sure the service manager has been right up his butt about it. They don't like to give away money. But it sounds like first rate customer care in how they handled it and propose to handle it.

i love trucks and cannot wait to get mine, but what really chews me up is when guys leave the hitch ball in. if you arent pulling something, take it out and put one of these (http://www.autotrucktoys.com/ram/Au-Tomotive-Gold-Dodge-Ram-Rams-Head-Chrome-Trailer-Hitch-Cover-P10294C1172.aspx) in its place

then again, if the hitch wasnt in it might have been worse

anyway, good to hear it is being taken care of. post some pics of the carnage if you got any

Any call from a dealer that has the words "bad news" is scary. I'm glad they owned up to it and will get you taken care of.
