View Full Version : MAN, I'M SICK!!! My SRT (SHADOW) got Scratched!
NOTPAID4 03-15-2010, 03:34 AM I'm absolutely SICK!!! While working on a project in my garage today, then completing that, I was shutting the garage door and the large spring on the door broke... came flying off... hit the floor and then bounced into the passenger side door and lower skirt. I looked the best I could and the door looks pretty scratched up... couldn't see any dents yet... too dark! Tomorrow, I'll have to pull it out of the garage and check for real damage! I don't EVEN want to touch it! Most EVERYONE that knows me, knows I'm very ANAL about my cars and probably more ANAL than most! I won't even drive my magnums IF there is a chance of rain; especially the SRT! Hence: this is why it's an 06 with 8,400 miles on it!
Tomorrow is NOT going to be a good day for me!!!!!

Well that's weird.... NOW I can't even open the garage door; never thought 'cuz the spring broke... that would effect the door's opening?

Yeah that's TRUE; still makes me sick ~ without taking it out of the garage, it's very difficult to check it out
(Thanks, according to my last checkup PSA looks GOOD! And so far felling good... still a lot weaker than I used to be and really bugs me, I liked staying busy!
So sorry to hear that Jim!
Thanks Jerry... I'm going to have to get ahold of a new spring for garage somewhere or call a garage door repairman!
Cheftank 03-15-2010, 01:05 PM i'm glad your ok! those springs carry enough force to cut you in half! serious, count your blessings.

Thanks Josh! Lucking I usually close the door from the inside and walk out the people door but yesterday I closed from the outside and thats when the spring broke and went flying... just the NOISE scared the crap outta me!!!
Was hoping to open the door and take the car out, but cannot lift it by myself... I thought for sure I still could open the door! ???
chithead 03-15-2010, 01:58 PM Wow! That is terrible. Hope it is an easy fix for both the garage door and Shadow's door!

Thanks Daniel... I finally got the garage door opened... WOW, was that hard to lift with only one spring. Got the SRT out and lotsa digs and scratches on the bottom of the pass door and kick panel. Doesn't look like they'll come out! With my luck, probably need painting... however at least it appear..no DENTS!
Just got back from Lowes with the new springs...NOW gotta figure out how in the world I'm gonna get 'em on there??? Those are wicked tight compaired to my old ones!
ClassicR/T2010 03-15-2010, 09:35 PM I know how you feel Jim. I was washing the Challenger the other day and seen like a deep cut in the R/R bumper cove by the side marker about 2" long:wow:. That makes me sick and pea off. But what the H%$#:box2:. Now I've got to rent a vehical as the Chally being fixed:i_redface:. The Chally is a daily drive. You'll see it at the next Cruise-In @ Pier 29 in March.
William
NOTPAID4 03-15-2010, 11:25 PM Well I went to Lowes today and got both springs! WOW, that wasn't any FUN putting them on and had to keep changing them up to get 'em adjusted right! Now my shoulder and neck is sore but at least the door goes up and down ~LOL~
I took a few pictures of the Shadow, of course the scratches are hard to see but they look deep enough they won't buff out! It can't be seen in the picture, but there is one "ding" now; like a rock chip! Man, I really hate this! I'll check with a body shop and see what they say!
I know they aren't very good pictures but the best I could get!

RustyNail 03-16-2010, 12:24 AM That sucks man! Hopefully it wont cost to much to fix!
340gts 03-16-2010, 02:25 AM Jim, glad that you are ok and the car is not too bad.
The spring could have failed while you were pulling in....
That had happened to me 2x in 15 years.. once car in, once car out.
I wait for the door to fully open before pulling in now.
I hope you can get the car looking good with out too much headache...sorry man.

Thanks Paul. I think this is the Third time I had one break! I did buy two new ones today and replace both!
1HOTWGN 03-16-2010, 10:30 AM What really stinks is that you keep the car in the garage to keep it safe... and then this happens!
You don't even think about how heavy that door is, until a spring breaks. Glad the damage is minimal!
Thommo 03-16-2010, 11:35 AM OH Buddy! I'm sick for you! As everyone else has said, your safety is paramount and that is still intact. I know how it feels to get damage on your car. I'm hoping all works out without too much headache for you.

Thanks, I think that is what irritates me the most; so paranoid, won't drive it in any inclement weather, keep it in the garage covered up and this crap happens! Geesh!

I'm hoping to get ahold of a friend of mine today and his friend works at local dealer body shop and maybe I can take it to them and see what they think! Don't really have a lot of money to due expensive repairs!
Midnight Rider 03-17-2010, 12:28 AM wow jim that is terrible, brings back all too recent memories for me and the scratch on our charger. for mine the insurance covered it and all three estimates i got were for the same price, 650. but that was to repaint two doors, not sure if they painted the whole door or just where it was scratched, but yours looks a little less than what i had
i do see a bit of a ding though on that one scratch, it kind of bends the reflection a little.
as everyone else has said, glad you are ok and look forward to meeting you saturday
NOTPAID4 03-17-2010, 02:50 AM Thanks Jerry! Took the Shadow to the body shop today and the guy said "If this were mine, I would NOT paint the door, I go to the dealer get some touch up paint and touch it up that way." So I brought it home, and decided "What the hey", I gonna try to use some "BLACK" wax and a wax paint stick! So I rubbed it with the paint stick (similar to a crayon), then put wax on and buffed. Did this at least 5 times and Holy COW, I'm surprised they almost disappeared! Can barely see them now and IF you didn't know they were there I don't think you would notice them ~ I'm PROUD OF MYSELF! LOL
Thommo 03-17-2010, 11:28 AM Wow, I would have never guessed... Was he afraid the paint would not match? Glad you found a cheaper alternative!!
NOTPAID4 03-17-2010, 12:25 PM I'm not sure about his thinking; maybe the expense involved... HOWEVER, I'm glad I tried what I did... HOLY COW, I was amazed how good it came out! I have heard that the color matched wax was a good thing to use. Guess it was!
HemiGirl69 03-17-2010, 01:36 PM Well, I'm late to the party as usual, but I'm glad you got it fixed and cheap too! I know how you feel, I found a chip on my rear fender of my bike a couple of weeks ago and it has been covered in the garage for months...just made me sick! I guess I'll get it fixed, I'm on the fence....I may just paint the whole thing next winter. Wax and a wax marker won't help mine...:shakehead:
